Unlock your Olympic potential: Osteopathy and your path to health goals

Published on: Tuesday 23rd July 2024

As we cheer for our favourite athletes in the upcoming Olympics, it's a perfect time to reflect on how these sporting legends achieve their incredible feats.

We all know how many hours of training, body conditioning and practice they put in to achieve their highest potential. But did you know that many of the top athletes and sporting champions have an additional weapon? Osteopathy!

So how did Osteopathy help them, and how could it help you?

Success stories from the field

Many athletes owe part of their success to osteopathy. For instance, renowned tennis player Andy Murray has significantly benefited from osteopathic care, enabling him to recover from injuries and enhance his on-court performance.

Serena Williams has used osteopaths to keep her in top form throughout her illustrious career.

Gold medallists and top prize winners Usain Bolt and Novak Djokovic have all credited osteopathy with helping them overcome injuries and improve their performances.

The benefits of osteopathy

Osteopathy works with the relationship between the body's structure and function, helping the body's own natural healing mechanism.

Your experienced Osteopath will focus on diagnosing, treating, and preventing health issues through hands on therapy.

Incorporating osteopathy into daily life

While we might not be hitting Grand Slam finals or running 100-metre sprints in under 10 seconds, our health goals are just as important. Regular osteopathic treatments can help us address imbalances, pain, and restricted movement, allowing us to live healthier and more active lives.

Regular treatments: A key to success

For athletes, consistent osteopathic care can mean the difference between winning and losing.

For us, it means improved quality of life.

Osteopathy may help enhance flexibility, reduce pain and may even improve sleep patterns. Being in pain makes sleeping difficult and good sleep is crucial for achieving any health goal.

Regular osteopathic visits can help you stay on track. Your osteopath will offer you personalised advice and specific treatment that’s just right for you to support your health journey.

Just like Olympic athletes, you can achieve remarkable things with the right support. Consider integrating osteopathy into your own health routine and watch how it helps you unlock your full potential.

Yan Kei treated my baby son. I felt completely confident that he was in safe hands. Yan Kei sorted out his stiff neck, and he is clearly more comfortable now. Thank you so much

I thought the treatment for pain in my knee was excellent. I felt I was being considered as an individual as Stephen listened to everything I said and gave a treatment appropriate to my needs. His approach was non-invasive. I began to notice an improvement in my knee after a couple of days and the pain has not recurred. To me, it felt as if each treatment enabled my body to correct itself and rebalance.

Our 10 week old baby was so tetchy and uncomfortable. He was crying all the time and writhing about seemingly with ongoing pain due to his bubbling tummy. Stephen Beaver held him gently and I don't know what he did, but after a few treatments there are no more issues, and he is a settled happy chap. Stephen also noticed the baby's head was tuning always to one side, and this has also been resolved with treatment. Great result. Thanks so much

Jude, Kingston

Just before Christmas, my back ‘went’. By ‘went’ I mean I could barely walk and had constant pain in my lower back and leg. I was off work and spent most of the time lying on the floor. I was treated by Stephen and Simon, both of whom have a professional but very calm manner – ideal for anyone who’s in a lot of pain. They identified muscle and sciatic nerve damage. They obviously knew what they were doing because the pain gradually started to ease, such that by the beginning of March I was back on the treadmill in the gym. Would I use SW19Osteopaths again? Definitely. Only this time I’d go sooner.

As a 74 year old, I felt totally secure with Stephen. He always discussed what he planned to do and his treatments have been so helpful. He is really gentle and completely effective with what he does. It's a wonderful practice, and I would recommend Stephen to anyone.

I saw Yan-Kei Man following a musculoskeletal injury, which she helped me treat. Impressed with Yan-Kei's professionalism and attentiveness, I have since introduced my young kids (3 and 5 years old) to osteopathy. In hindsight, a wise decision given that a scooter accident had left my 5 year old with a slight postural dysfunction. I thoroughly recommend Yan-Kei for her specialisation and impeccable manners.

Steve always manages to put me back together again - then life is a pleasure!

Over the last 6 months Lara has effectively used the Emmett Technique to eliminate my persistent lower back pain as well as foot and heel pain. She has also been able to relieve stress and tension from my neck and shoulders. The relief, as a result of her treatments, is immediate and long-lasting. I would highly recommend her treatments.

Amanda, Wimbledon

I've been visiting the practice since February and have been seen by Yan-Kei. I'm just writing to leave a brief review of the practice and of her. The treatment I have received from Yan-Kei has benefited me greatly and I am improved in all aspects of life. I would recommend this treatment to anyone who feels any sense of discomfort and seeks to change their life for the better. Look forward to my next visit

Stephen has been my osteopath for many years and has helped me recover from several serious operations. The atmosphere in the clinic is so calm and relaxing, and Stephen is an absolute professional in everything he does. He truly has healing hands.
