Epsom Salts Sliced Bread or marketing hype?

Epsom Salts (Magnesium) in your bath – will they really help sooth your aching muscles and relax for a good night’s sleep? 

How about compression leggings for help with recovery after sport – Can they even improve your performance?

Are these the best things since sliced bread, or pure marketing hype?

To say that we at SW19 Osteopaths continue to promote and sell Epsom Salts (magnesium sulphate), gives you a clue to our view. We love soaking in an Epsom Salts bath, and sell kilo bags for just £8 ( or 2 for £15)! They can help with skin conditions too.

However, in general, we don’t promote compression garments, except in specific circumstances, as the inflammatory response that compression clothing inhibits, can actually be helpful to healing.

Having suffered from a shoulder injury since last September and following unsuccessful physio, I decided to try SW19 Osteopath and Yan-Kei has been amazing. Following a breech caesarean birth, Max developed a tendency to turn his head to one side, and he developed a visibly flattened side of head. Our 10 week old baby was so tetchy and uncomfortable. He was crying all the time and writhing about seemingly with ongoing pain due to his bubbling tummy. Stephen Beaver held him gently and I don't know what he did, but after a few treatments there are no more issues, and he is a settled happy chap.
